Take It Easy At The Singapore Sports Hub

Take It Easy At The Singapore Sports Hub

While many of us enjoy a good, heart-pumping workout, there are some who prefer to take things at a leisurely pace — and for good reasons. For instance, you need to keep active while recovering from an injury or illness, or you want to spend quality time with elderly relatives or young children who may have difficulty keeping up. And more often than not, a change of pace is just what you need to reset and recharge your body and mind.

Here are seven things you can do at the Singapore Sports Hub without breaking too much of a sweat.

READ A GOOD BOOK
The Sports Hub Library, Singapore’s centre of sports knowledge, houses a diverse array of resources – ranging from print to audio-visual to electronic. Learn more about a sport or fitness activity or be inspired by a world-class athlete from a wide catalogue of books, including those about training and coaching, and health, nutrition and fitness, as well as memoirs, biographies and stories.

Visitors can also spend time exploring the kids’ zone, a giant chess set, video-viewing stations and internet kiosks.

Membership is free for all Singaporeans and Permanent Residents.

The Sports Hub Library opens Mon to Fri, 10am to 8pm; Sat, Sun, Eve of Public Holiday and Public Holiday, 10am to 9pm. Some of these facilities are temporarily closed due to COVID-19. Check with our friendly librarian for more information.

DISCOVER SINGAPORE’S SPORTING HERITAGE
Dedicated to telling the stories of our nation’s sporting past and future aspirations, the Singapore Sports Museum offers insightful and interactive exhibits in six different galleries, including one that chronicles the history of the former and current National Stadium. Explore the Museum at your own pace, or join us for a weekday tour, with a guide taking you through a selected galleries in a 30-minute session.

Admission tickets to the Singapore Sports Museum are available at the Visitors Centre (valid photo ID required). Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents — as well as children under six years old — enter for free. Non-residents pay $10 (adults) or $5 (children, students and senior citizens).

The Singapore Sports Museum opens Mon to Fri, 10am to 8pm; Sat, Sun, Eve of Public Holiday and Public Holiday, 10am to 9pm.

EXPLORE KALLANG
If you prefer learning outdoors, embark on the 3km-long The Kallang Story: A Sports, Arts and Heritage Trail presented by Singapore Sports Hub. Discover about the area’s rich history, sporting achievements and art from a series of 18 heritage markers, as well as artefacts, architecture and artworks.

There are three trails to choose from: The Waterfront Trail, The Stadium Trail and The Park Trail. While older grown-ups reminisce about familiar landmarks and the surrounding landscape, younger trail wanderers will want to keep an eye out for unique installations like the 14 benches, made from the repurposed timber seats of the old National Stadium.

To fully enjoy the walk, bring along a water bottle to keep hydrated, and hat or umbrella to shield yourself from the hot weather. And put on a good pair of walking shoes!
