The stage is set for the inaugural Singapore Tennis Open (STO) 2025 as we welcome professional women’s tennis back to the city. It has been seven years since the last WTA Finals match was played in Singapore and tennis fans are eagerly looking forward to a week of live action on the courts. Held at the Kallang Tennis Hub which just opened in April 2024, the tournament will feature a good mix of experience and fresh talent which will set up interesting matchups that the fans will get to watch up-close.

Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya is one of the brightest stars in women’s tennis right now. Currently ranked No. 14 in the world, Kalinskaya has quickly established herself as a player to watch. She made a quarterfinal appearance in Melbourne last year – her best Grand Slam result so far – and will be headed to Singapore straight from her 2025 Australian Open campaign. Known for her precision and powerful groundstrokes, the STO 2025 will be her debut in Singapore, and being the highest-ranked player of the tournament, she is definitely the favourite to take home the title.

2. Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu made history in 2021 by winning the US Open as a qualifier, an incredible feat that captured the hearts of tennis fans worldwide. The British player’s relentless attacking style of play combined with her poised demeanour on court makes her a fan favourite and a real threat in any tournament. While Raducanu has been here on several trips, and made her rounds to local tennis clubs and hawker centres, it will be the first time she will be playing a WTA Tour-level tournament in Singapore so it will be exciting to see how she will take to the courts at the Kallang Tennis Hub.

3. Elise Mertens
While Elise Mertens has gained top-level success in doubles with two Australian Open titles, a Wimbledon crown, and a US Open doubles championship to her name, her prowess in singles is also known on the tour. Currently ranked No. 34 in singles, Mertens is not an easy player to come up against on any surface as her versatility and adaptability makes her a dangerous opponent.

4. Wang Xinyu
Winning her first Grand Slam title in doubles at the French Open in 2023, Wang Xinyu is also one of the top singles players coming out of China. Currently the No.2 Chinese player and ranked No.37 in the world, Wang, once touted as the Asian Maria Sharapova, will be eager to showcase her hard-hitting style in front of fans from the region.
The United States of America leads the pack with the biggest number of representatives in the tournament as Kenin is joined by a dynamic group of American players including Taylor Townsend, Bernarda Pera, Caroline Dolehide, Alycia Parks, Hailey Baptiste and Ann Li. Whether it's the steady hand of veteran players like Pera or the youthful energy of Parks, the Americans will be ready to make a mark at the first ever Singapore Tennis Open.
With Wang Xinyu leading the Chinese contingent, compatriots Wang Yafan and Wang Xiyu have also secured their spots in the player field. All three are currently ranked among the top 10 players in China and will definitely be looking to do Asia proud at the tournament.
